Troopers crack down on commercial vehicles along I-80 - WFMJ.com News weather sports for Youngstown-Warren Ohio

HUBBARD, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Pennsylvania State Police are teaming up to target speeding and other factors that lead to commercial vehicle crashes in the Valley.

During a joint news conference held Wednesday morning along the Ohio-Pennsylvania line, representatives from both agencies announced that they are pooling their resources.

Their goal is to enforce commercial vehicle violations.

"Following too closely is a major factor in crashes." said Ohio Highway Patrol Lieutenant Marvin Hill. "If they would just decrease their speed and not be as distracted, then that prevents them from following too close."

Lt. Hill says people just need to be more observant, and slow down.

Troopers are kicking off the safety campaign because with warmer weather, comes an increase in traffic. With more moving traffic there are more crashes.

"Commercial motor vehicles weigh up to, and over 80-thousand pounds going rate of speed of 65-miles an hour. If they're not obeying the traffic laws, they can cause some serious damage if they happen to crash. So we're out here for their safety and the motoring safety." said Corporal James Willochell of the Pennsylvania State Police.
