Mayors work together to try and bring another airline to Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport is currently looking into a United flight from Vienna to Chicago.

The Cafaro Foundation, has now officially given a $100,000grant, hoping to help secure the United Airlines deal.

But a total of $400,000 overall, is needed. Mayors from several local cities, say council members are already planning to meet to discuss what their communities can afford to offer.

Youngstown Mayor John McNally says, "The whole idea of restoring the Youngstown, Chicago service I think is fantastic, shows a business rebound that's occurring not only in Youngstown, but in a 5 or 6 county area in Eastern Ohio, Western Pennsylvania. It shows the strength of the airport."

Mayor Doug Franklin of Warren says, "We're meeting tonight with the Council Health and Welfare Committee to discuss possible ways that we can contribute. There's an ordinance to set aside $30,000 for starters."

Mayor Franklin has also written a letter to United Airlines in Chicago, pledging his support to bring the airline here to the Valley.
