Work to begin on missing link of Western Reserve Greenway

Posted: Updated:

WARREN, Ohio - A contractor has been hired to complete a missing link in the Western Reserve Greenway trail project.

Trumbull County Commissioners on Wednesday awarded a nearly $1.4-million contract to Burton Scott Contractors of Newbury, Ohio to build a ten foot wide, 2.19 mile long paved trail.

The project will connect the existing bike, hike and jogging trail at North River Road in Warren to another existing trail head on Champion East Road, near the  Kent State University Trumbull Branch in Champion.

Upon completion, the trail will provide a virtually uninterrupted path from the city of Warren, to Ashtabula.

Hikers and bikers traveling from Warren to Ashtabula however will still share the road with traffic for less than a mile in Rock Creek.

The majority of funding for the project, in the amount of $1,155,600 originates from the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.

You can find out more about the trail by following this link.
