YPD trying to determine if teen is connected to shooting of 9-year-old

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown Police detectives have arrested a man on gun charges, and are investigating whether or not he's connected to a shooting incident that wounded a 9-year-old girl as she was doing school work at her home.

Third grader Kathryn Carter was shot when a bullet penetrated a window of her Youngstown home, and struck her in the chest as she sat at a dining room table early Wednesday.

On Thursday detectives served a search warrant on a Hilton Avenue home, and arrested 19-year-old Devante Scott on several weapons charges.

Detectives are trying to determine if Scott is connected to the girl's shooting.

Investigators are not saying what led them to search the home.

The victim remains in Akron Children's hospital.
