YSU gallery to bear name of arts devotee

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown State University has renamed the Bliss Gallery in honor of Judith Rae Solomon for her devotion to the visual and performing arts in the Mahoning Valley.

The dedication was officially made on Monday, during a ceremony at Bliss Hall.

University trustees made the designation in recognition of Martin and Susan Solomon, who made a personal pledge of $150,000 to the College of Creative Arts and Communication.

The endowment will be used for improvements to the gallery and to establish a supporting endowment for programming and maintenance related to the gallery.

The Solomons have donated two prominent works of art to the college.

Martin Solomon has donated $200,000 since 1994 for the Andrews Recreation and Wellness Center, the Williamson College of Business Administration and the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
