Uninsured at 'breaking point' too, advocates warn

Posted: Updated:

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Gov. Tom Corbett's words are being thrown back at him after he warned that he was at his "breaking point" over the federal government's apparent resistance to conditions he wants before accepting billions of Medicaid expansion dollars.

Advocates for the poor and uninsured gathered Tuesday in the Pennsylvania Capitol and warned that many people are at their breaking point without access to the government-funded health insurance that Corbett has refused.

The federal Medicaid expansion dollars became available to states on Jan. 1.

The Corbett administration says it won't be ready to administer a Medicaid-funded expansion of health insurance until 2015.

The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that 281,000 low-income Pennsylvanians will be left without an insurance option under President Barack Obama's signature health care law until then.
