City and county partner to tackle stray dog problem in Youngstown

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -  An agreement between the city of Youngstown and Mahoning county will target the problem of stray and dangerous dogs in the city.

Mayor John McNally was joined by city council members and the county commissioners in making the announcement Wednesday morning.

Extra funding will make a deputy dog warden available seven days a week to help enforce dog ordinances within the city.

"This will make our response time much quicker because we're not having someone come from home.  Somebody is already in the city and on duty and it works much better." said Mahoning County Dog Warden Dianne Fry.

The city and county each are contributing $36,000 dollars to provide the extra service.

70% of the calls to the county Dog Warden involve animals in the city.
