Machine helps Mahoning County Sheriff preserve criminal evidence

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - There's a new tool to help authorities track down and convict criminals in the Mahoning Valley.

The Mahoning County Sheriff's Department has purchased a machine that helps preserve fingerprint evidence.

The Cyanosafe sprays a mist of a material similar to super glue that clings to fingerprints on objects that a suspect may have handled during the commission of a crime.

Sheriff Jerry Greene describes the machine as a tool that will keep prints from being smeared, or damaged in other ways.

"What it really does it takes any damage to the print out of the equation because it will make the print permanent." says  Greene.

The machine's $5,000 price tag was paid for with money from seized from drug investigations.

Sheriff Greene wants to make the machine available to all local law enforcement agencies.
