Former treasurer of Youngstown firefighters union resigns amid investigation

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN - Ohio - A Youngstown firefighter has resigned from the department amid an investigation into missing union funds.

Sources tell 21 News that Destry Rush, former Treasurer of the Youngstown Professional Firefighters Union, is being investigated by police detectives.

21 News has confirmed Rush, a former fire department captain, turned in his resignation letter on Friday and officially resigned on Sunday.

The union filed a police report alleging that the funds are missing, from the union treasury.

President of Firefighters Local 312 David Cook told investigators that the union treasury report does not match-up with account balances at the bank.

The amount of money involved was not disclosed.

In a written statement, Cook says the union is disappointed and saddened, over what he described as unfortunate and serious allegations, and Local 312 is cooperating fully with the investigation.

No charges have been filed against Rush, or anyone else in connection with the investigation.
