Boil alert lifted for Austintown and Canfield

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Water Department notified customers in Austintown and Canfield that it has lifted a boil alert.

A fax from the city water department says that all microbiological drinking water samples have been examined and found to be free of contamination. The fax says that the drinking water is now considered safe. Therefore, the boil water alert has been lifted.

The alert was issued late Sunday following a pump station malfunction that cut service to Youngstown Water customers in Austintown and Canfield Townships.

Prior to resuming normal water usage practices, the Mahoning County Health Department recommends that residences and food service establishments follow these steps to ensure the safety of homeowners, patrons and employees.

 · Flush the water lines for at least two minutes

· Clean faucet screens

· Clean the water line strainers on mechanical dishwashing machines and similar equipment

· Purge all water-using fixtures and appliances of standing water (ice machines, beverages makers, hot water heaters, etc.)

· Clean and sanitize all fixtures, sinks and equipment connected to the waterlines.
