Rates increasing for Girard water customers

GIRARD, Ohio - Thousands of homes and businesses in the Valley can expect higher water bills beginning this summer.

Customers of the Girard water department will see a 14 percent rate increase beginning with the July bills.

Girard Mayor James Melfi tells 21 News that two of the city's water suppliers,Youngstown and Niles both raised their rates due to increased prices charged by their supplier, the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District.

Girard water services all customers in Girard, and parts of Liberty Township and Weathersfield, and currently has a total of 5,837 customers.

Girard's water source is the Meander Reservoir.
