Youngstown announces VIP program to fight crime

Posted: Updated:

Crime in Youngstown typically grows in the summer months.

As a result, the city launched this year's Violence Interruption Patrols, or VIP program Thursday.

The city said the program is a multi-faceted approach to combating gun and gang violence.

"The patrol effort is directed by intelligence-led policing and information we gathered through the statistical data through other intelligent information we collect," said Chief Robin Lees, Youngstown Police.

The VIP program is a collaborative effort between state, local and federal authorities.
