PITTSBURGH (AP) - The largest natural gas industry group in the region is helping to organize a rally in Pennsylvania's capital to show support for the industry.

The Marcellus Shale Coalition says next Tuesday's event is intended to let legislators and the public know that a diverse group of people support the natural gas boom that began about six years ago.

Coalition president David Spigelmyer says there are some very vocal opponents of shale gas drilling, but supporters believe there is a "passionate group of folks" that have benefited from the boom, including landowners, organized labor, and consumers.

The rally is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Harrisburg and will feature about a dozen speakers. At least one environmental group plans to hold a counter demonstration.
