Thunder Over the Valley: What you need to know

Posted: Updated:
VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio - If you plan to attend the Thunder Over the Valley air show at the Youngstown Air Reserve Air Base, don't plan on parking at the base, and don't be late if you want to see the Air Force Thunderbirds perform.

Due to limited parking availability at the base and the anticipated large crowds, air show guests must park at designated off-station locations from where they will be shuttled to the site of the dates of the event May 17 and 18.

The last shuttles from the parking areas leave for the base at 3:00 p.m.

The locations include:

Eastwood Field at the Eastwood Mall shopping complex, 111 Eastwood Mall Blvd, Niles

Delphi-Packard Electric Systems (Phantom Fireworks property) at North River Rd. and Larchmont, 165 N. River Rd. NW, Warren.

Youngstown Air Partners will provide shuttle service to the station aboard Community Bus Service buses.

Although admission to the air show is free, CBS will collect $5 per seat (unlimited all-day round trip shuttle service) to help subsidize the cost of transporting guests to the station.

The parking areas will open and bus pass sales begin at 8 a.m. on both show days. Shuttle service begins at 8:45 a.m. and the show gates open at 9 a.m. Once parked, show guests will purchase their shuttle ticket, board a bus and be transported to the air reserve station for the show. Bus passes may be purchased from CBS prior to the show at the Eastwood Mall.

The shuttles will be available to guests for the duration of the air show. Shuttles transporting guests to the air station will cease operations at 3 p.m. However, shuttles returning guests to parking areas will operate until the show grounds close at 7 p.m.

Security regulations will prevent any arrivals later than people taking shuttle busses that depart at 3 p.m. from the two parking locations.

The Trumbull County Engineer will close King Graves Road between State Route 11 and State Route 193 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. both days of the event.

The recommended detour is as follows:

South on State Route 11
East on Warren Sharon Road
North on State Route 193

Air show guests can tune into several local radio stations that will broadcast real-time traffic and parking updates.

These stations include:

93.3 FM

95.9 FM

98.9 FM

106.1 FM,

570 AM

1390 AM.

To ensure security, the following items may not be brought onto the show grounds:

• Excessive storage bags such as briefcases, duffle bags, suitcases and large camera bags

• Illegal drugs

• Any item that could be used as a weapon, such as firearms, ammunition, knives, mace, etc.
