AUSTINTOWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -

Volunteers are stepping up to spruce up the Austintown 9-11 Memorial Park in time for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Penn National gaming says it plans to provide people to perform some landscaping work at the park on Raccoon Road.

Penn National is the company building building the  Hollywood Gaming at the Mahoning Valley Racecourse in Austintown.

21 News reported on the condition of the park on Monday, after viewers brought the issue to the attention of our newsroom.

Township officials say a harsh winter and recent rainy weather kept maintenance crews from attending to the park until this week.
