YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Youngstown city council approved a portion of the funds that are being paid out in a settlement from a civil rights lawsuit Wednesday night.

The city is paying $50,000 to its liability insurance provider to satisfy the policy deductible.

Earlier this month, a tentative settlement was reached between Desiree Johnson and the city.

In her lawsuit, Johnson alleged that Lt. Kevin Mercer used excessive and unreasonable force and searched and seized her 12-year-old son at gunpoint during a 2009 incident.
