Former Austintown coach sentenced to house arrest

Posted: Updated:

A former Austintown Middle School assistant wrestling coach has been sentenced to spend two weeks on house arrest.  That's the sentence handed down by Youngstown Municipal Court Judge Elizabeth Kobly to 25-year-old Matthew Kuti who pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of obstructing justice.

In February, witnesses say they saw Kuti engaged in a physical argument with his girlfriend, in front of First Place Bank on Market Street.

Hillary Stack told police that Kuti pushed her onto the bank steps and punched her in the face. Police observed blood coming from Stack's mouth, and said her lip, eye and cheek were swollen.

Police tracked Kuti to his Boardman home, where he was arrested on charges of domestic violence, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle under the influence.

Austintown School officials say that Kuti had a contract as a wrestling coach at Austintown Middle School this year, but the season has ended. He is not a teacher at the school.
