Death penalty trial to begin for suspect in Youngstown shootings

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A possible death sentence is on the table as a 33-year-old Youngstown man goes on trial for a shooting that left one man dead and his wife severely injured.

It took one month to select the jury that will hear the case against Aubrey Toney, whose trial is expected to begin Wednesday morning in Mahoning County Common Pleas court.

Toney is accused of firing a gun into a Cadillac driven by Thomas Repchic in 2010, killing Repchic, and wounding his wife.

The shooting occurred near Southern Boulevard and Market Street as the couple was leaving Saint Dominic's Church.

Toney says the Repchics were not the intended target, claiming that their car was similar to one driven by a person with whom Toney was feuding.

Two years ago, Kevin Agee was sentenced to 39 years to life in prison after he was convicted of murder and attempted murder in connection with the crime.
