More staff cuts at Northside Medical Center in Youngstown

Posted: Updated:

The company that operates Northside Medical Center in Youngstown has announced further staff cuts.

In a statement released Wednesday, ValleyCare Health System says it has made what it calls, "a staff adjustment of 29 positions" that primarily affect both union and non-union management and laboratory positions.

That brings to 162 the number of cuts announced by ValleyCare since last summer.   In October, the hospital announced the elimination of 56 full time positions is part of a restructuring. In August, Northside Medical Center announced that 77 full time employees would be laid off or have work hours reduced.

According to the company statement, "As healthcare continues to transform across the county, the atmosphere in the industry remains challenging. The same factors that Northside faces - such as continued trends toward outpatient and non-traditional services - are the same that other providers are experiencing across the country."
