Steelers rookie DT McCullers faces tall task

Posted: Updated:
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers rookie nose tackle Daniel McCullers is hoping to stand out for more than his size.

The 6-foot-7, 352-pound McCullers was the biggest player taken last month in the NFL draft. The Steelers selected McCullers in the sixth round hoping the former Tennessee player can become a space eater in the middle of Pittsburgh's 3-4 defense.

McCullers is considered a long-term project but he has already wowed some of his teammates during organized team activities. Defensive end Cam Heyward likened McCullers to "Paul Bunyan" and said he's impressed by McCullers' agility.

Finding a spot on the roster right away could be difficult. The Steelers have plenty of options at nose tackle, where veteran Steven McLendon is hoping to hold onto his starting job ahead of free agent signee Cam Thomas.
