Youngstown fire chief visits company targeted by anti-fracking flyer

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Fire Chief addressed council regarding a flyer being passed out by an anti-fracking group throughout the city.

Chief John O'Neil told city council Wednesday evening that the flyer contains incorrect information regarding a new business on the outskirts of downtown Youngstown.

Chief O'Neil said the flyer talks about radioactive material at Industrial Waste Control/Ground Technology Incorporated. He said he took one of the departments HazMat experts to the site and found no signs of public danger.

"Not to say that we don't have a duty to check on the place periodically and make sure everything is okay and operating the same, but as of today (Wednesday) our findings were radiation levels down there were normal, and we found nothing wrong in their operation," the Chief said.

The company is permitted to clean tanks, carry out radiological surveys and store waste water from the oil and gas drilling industry.
