Group concerned about Youngstown company that handles fracking waste water

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Youngstown fire department Hazmat expert found no signs of public danger at a local business and ODNR gave it the OK during a surprise visit but one group still has concerns.

Susie Beiersdorfer of Frackfree Mahoning Valley questions the oversight in place for facilities like Industrial Waste Control/ Ground Technology on the outskirts of downtown Youngstown.

The company stores oil and gas drilling waste water. Questions were raised at the group's meeting Thursday night about techniques to test radioactive materials.

"At the least there needs to be some rules, some oversight. There needs to be some conversation between state and local officials," said Beiersdorfer.

City officials have discussed efforts to set up future public meetings with the company's owner and ODNR. No dates have been set.
