Youngstown man sentenced to 90 years for child pornography

Posted: Updated:

A registered sex offender from Youngstown is going to prison for ninety years for producing child pornography.

29-year-old Christopher Cavna of Mahoning Avenue was sentenced on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cleveland after pleading earlier to charges of child exploitation and producing and sending pornographic images of a minor.

Federal investigators say Cavna took pictures of a six year old girl engaging in sexually explicit activity then distributed those images using his cell phone and email.

According to an FBI criminal complaint, Cavna admitted to taking and sending the photos in question. Additional photos of a minor engaged in sexual activity were found on his cell phone as well.

Cavna's 27-year-old wife Dawn Cavna is charged in Mahoning County Court with six counts of child endangering and one count of tampering with evidence.  Investigators say she allowed children as young as one year old to take part in making sexually oriented material, and then attempted to impede the investigation into the case.

An indictment alleges that she allowed three children, ages one, five and seven, to take part in production of sexually oriented material, and failed to follow her duty as a parent and protect those children.

The alleged crimes took place over a one-and-a-half year period starting in January of 2012.
