Police deny wrongdoing in fatal shooting of Farrell man

Posted: Updated:
FARRELL, Pa. -

Authorities in Mercer County are denying that police did anything wrong when they shot and killed a man outside a Farrell apartment on Thanksgiving day in 2011.

The assertion is contained in an answer to a complaint filed in federal court against two Southwest Regional Police officers for the shooting death of 27-year-old Donteau Napier.

Napier's girlfriend,Taliea Robinson clams in a suit filed in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh, that police shot Napier even though he was unarmed and had a history of mental problems.

In the answer to the complaint, police claim that Napier approached police in a rapid and threatening manner and refused to follow police orders.

Police also say that although they did not know if Napier was armed, they did have previous information that he possessed a handgun and had threatened Robinson with that gun.
