Storms knock out power and cause flooding in Valley

Posted: Updated:
First Energy crews are working to restore power to a wide area of the Valley that was swept by storms late Monday afternoon.

Heavy rain was part of the thunderstorm that moved through the area causing localized flooding.  The water was high enough on Warwick Court in Austintown to allow Junior Natal to go kayaking in the middle of the street.  The Natals say that the water receded almost as quickly as it came.

According to the First Energy online outage map, by 9:30 p.m., the utility was working on restoring electricity to 143 homes and businesses in Trumbull county, with the majority of the outages in the Mineral Ridge area.

227 outages were reported in Mahoning County. Most of the outages were in Boardman and surrounding neighborhoods, including the south side of Youngstown.  Outages were reported in Lake Milton as well.

First Energy estimates that the power will be restored by 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.
