Salem gets ready for hot rod fans

Posted: Updated:
SALEM, Ohio -

Tens of thousands of car enthusiasts will be in Salem this weekend for two big events, the Steel Valley Super Nationals and Salem's Super Cruise.

People are already preparing for Friday's start to the Steel Valley Super Nationals at Quaker City Motorsports Park.

Hot road fans come from miles away to take part in drag racing and burnouts. Others come just to see the cars and watch all the action.

Last year 36,000 people jammed into the park. This year, more people are expected due to the popularity of two rockers set to perform on different days, Vince Neil and Bret Michaels.

Corey Ward from Steel Valley, says "They were aware of the event, Vince and Bret both are hot rod guys I wouldn't be surprised if you saw them on the track or saw them do something like that. They love the event."

The city of Salem has their own event going on. The Salem Super Cruise starts Thursday.

Some streets will be closed to allow for car cruising and for concerts and concessions.

Salem Service Director Ken Kenst, says "We're going to make Pershing one way for show cars only we'll have show car parking in municipal lots on Pershing and Second Street also South Broadway will be closed for show car parking as well."

The cost for the Steel Valley Super Nats is around $15 a person. There is no admission fee for the Salem Super Cruise.
