Slippery Rock man charged in girlfriend's heroin overdose death

Posted: Updated:
SLIPPERY ROCK, P.a. - A western Pennsylvania man is in jail on charges he provided the heroin that led to his girlfriend's fatal overdose.

Thirty-one-year-old Shayne Emery of Slippery Rock is charged with drug delivery, resulting in the death of 21 year old Brittany Lee Hays in February.

A syringe and stamp bags marked "Theraflu" were found in Hays' room.

"Theraflu" was one of the street names used for heroin laced with the powerful synthetic painkiller fentanyl. Fentanyl is being blamed for more than 20 fatal overdoses in western Pennsylvania earlier this year.
