Job picture improves for suburbs and rural areas of the Valley

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

The overall unemployment rate in the Valley remained virtually unchanged last month, but did show marginal improvement outside of the urban areas.

The jobless rate for the Youngstown Warren Metropolitan area in May remained at 5.8 percent, unchanged from the April rate. 

Rates improved at least one tenth of a percent in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties.

Columbiana         6.0%    5.9%

The Valley jobless rate is about three tenths of a percent higher than the state average of 5.5%, but half a percent lower than the national rate of 6.3%.

15,200 people in the valley were unemployed last month.
