Life sentence for Youngstown man convicted of murder

Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

A Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge has handed down a sentence of life without parole for a Youngstown man convicted of  murdering one man, and wounding his brother.

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum passed sentence on Thursday, after a jury took only two hours to convict 24-year-old Lavelle Stanley of aggravated murder, attempted murder and felonious assault.

Investigators say Stanley fatally shot 25-year-old Elliott Stewart and wounded his brother last November after Stewart tried to break up an argument between two women.

His brother, 26-year-old Derrick Stewart, was shot in the hip outside the Breeze Car Waxing at Southern Boulevard and East Judson.
