Life sentence for Youngstown man convicted of murder

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

A Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge has handed down a sentence of life without parole for a Youngstown man convicted of  murdering one man, and wounding his brother.

Judge R. Scott Krichbaum passed sentence on Thursday, after a jury took only two hours to convict 24-year-old Lavelle Stanley of aggravated murder, attempted murder and felonious assault.

Investigators say Stanley fatally shot 25-year-old Elliott Stewart and wounded his brother last November after Stewart tried to break up an argument between two women. 

His brother, 26-year-old Derrick Stewart, was shot in the hip outside the Breeze Car Waxing at Southern Boulevard and East Judson.

The 14 year-old admitted to his mother via Snapchat that he posted on social media his plan to shoot up the school and then kill himself, according to a police report.  Another student's parent alerted school officials about the social media post, prompting a school-wide lock down, the report says.
