Authorities search for person of interest in Austintown teen's death

Posted: Updated:

The recent death of a 16-year-old girl is prompting the Austintown Police Department to seek the public's help early-on in cases of missing or runaway juveniles.

Police are still investigating the death of Gina Burger, who's body was discovered in a Grove City landfill two days after she was reported missing by her mother. Officials are not naming a person of interest, but are actively looking for someone they want to question.

"What we'd like to do is ask for the public's help in identifying and locating these runaways. And also make the public aware that if you're found harboring or keeping a juvenile, who's a runaway and you know they're a runaway, we will look at charging you," said Jeffrey Solic, Law Enforcement Task Force.

Officials said Burger was found with one stab wound to the chest and are awaiting lab results for DNA evidence from her clothes.
