Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Alerts went out early Wednesday to students and staff at Youngstown State University informing them that a robbery had been committed near campus.

A text message sent out over the university alert system notified recipients that a robbery had been reported at 12:52 a.m. on the 800 block of Michigan Avenue.  A second alert specified that the crime occurred near the Westbound Service Road, which is off campus, but just a few yards away from the parking lot for the Lyden House student resident facility.

According to the second text message, two suspects armed with handguns robbed three YSU students of personal items. The victims were not injured.

The suspects fled westbound from the university campus. St. Elizabeth Hospital Police were involved in a short foot pursuit with the alleged suspects, but lost them in the rear yards west of Belmont Avenue.
