FBI connects Dayton robberies of pharmacy, bank

Posted: Updated:

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - The FBI says it has connected two southwest Ohio robberies that included families being kidnapped and held at gunpoint.

The agency tells the Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/1miUFQK ) that a November 2011 robbery of a pharmacy and a February 2012 bank holdup likely were carried out by same group of men.

Both Dayton robberies involved kidnapping employees and their family members.

The robbers took 1,000 prescription pain pills worth $30,000 from the pharmacy and $90,000 in cash from the bank. To tie the crimes together, the FBI used surveillance video, DNA analysis, telephone records, confidential informants and a cooperating witness.

The FBI said last month that five men were arrested and are facing federal charges including bank robbery, weapons possession and kidnapping.
