Former Youngstown rape suspect imprisoned again

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

A Youngstown man once accused of raping teenage girl and holding her against her will for several days is in trouble with the law again.

A federal judge has unsealed an indictment charging 22-year-old Benjamin R. Ross with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The indictment says that in December, Ross obtained a .40 caliber pistol.

In 2011, Ross was charged with six counts of rape and one count of kidnapping after a seventeen year old girl told police that Ross held her at a home on the south side of Youngstown and raped her for several days. The girl says she escaped when Ross wasn’t looking.

On the day Ross was to go on trial, he was allowed to plead to the less serious charge of gross sexual imposition.

Ross was released from prison in 2012 after serving one year and nine months.

Ross was placed on probation until December, 2017.

As a condition of his probation, Ross cannot purchase, possess, own, use any firearm.

Ross is in custody at the Franklin County jail in Columbus.
