Post Office retracts threat to discontinue services to Liberty neighborhood

Posted: Updated:
LIBERTY TWP, Ohio -

People who live on one street in Liberty Township are receiving welcome news from the Youngstown Post Office regarding their mail delivery.

The Post Office has repealed a decision to stop delivering mail to residents on Arbor Circle.

Neighbors say they were informed by a letter on July 12, that the Post Office would cease mail deliveries to their  houses unless they installed curb side mail boxes by July 31st.

The initial letter from the Post Office's Supervisor of Customer Service Support  cited an incident in November 2013 where a mail carrier reported being attacked by a dog on the 400 block of Arbor Circle .

Township Trustee Jodi Stoyak says the resident whose dog reportedly attacked the mail carrier rented a post office box three days later. Stoyak says it was the only incident reported before the Post Office sent it's letter to residents.

After residents approached the Township Board of Trustees, Stoyak drafted a letter to send to the Post Office in Cleveland. However, she says before she was able to send the letter the Postmaster General in Cleveland called and said the Post Office will be retracting the letter and residents will not need to get curbside mailboxes to continue receiving deliveries.
