Pittsburgh man wins $105K verdict against police

Posted: Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A jury has awarded $105,000 in civil damages to a Pittsburgh man who claimed police used excessive force against him during a 2010 traffic stop.

The federal jury on Wednesday awarded the money to 40-year-old Anthony Kenney, who sued Pittsburgh police officer Matthew Turko for excessive force and officer Robert Smith for failing to intervene.

Kenney's lawyer, Margaret Coleman, says the verdict sends a strong message to the police department.

Pittsburgh City Solicitor Lourdes Sanchez Ridge says city officials are disappointed with the verdict and are reviewing their legal options.
