Pipeline project includes eye out for artifacts

Posted: Updated:

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A natural gas pipeline to be run under a northwestern Ohio river comes with a promise to keep an eye out for any historical artifacts found along the way.

The $7.5 million project to place a natural gas line under the Maumee River between Maumee and Perrysburg is expected to be finished by October.

The Blade newspaper reports Thursday (http://bit.ly/1pcUqVO ) Columbia Gas will have an archaeologist on site to ensure artifacts are excavated and preserved.

The company says it's working with historical organizations on both sides of the river to be sure any artifacts are shared with the community.

Once completed the line will replace a 12-inch-wide bare steel pipeline that was installed in the 1940s.
