COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The farmer featured in a radio ad for Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) airing across rural Ohio is not just a small businessman.
Paulding County soybean farmer Terry McClure also sits on the board of Nationwide, one of the world's largest insurance companies, and formerly chaired the boards of agribusiness specialty lines affiliated with the company that generated close to $1 billion a year in premiums.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald's campaign says McClure's extensive business interests aren't those of the everyday Ohioan portrayed in the ad.
Kasich's campaign says McClure exemplifies a group of Ohioans who benefited from repeal of Ohio's estate tax. McClure, a fifth-generation farmer, says in the ad that the move allowed farmers to invest more in their businesses and churches and keep their family farms.
