State Route 170 between New Middletown and Petersburg may remain closed until Wednesday morning.

The Ohio Department of Transportation announced on Sunday evening that it had shut down SR 170 between Pine Lake Road and Columbiana Road because of the appearance of a sinkhole.

After crews inspected the road, ODOT announced that the road would be closed until further notice.

Inspectors will use radar on Tuesday to get a better look at the sinkhole. If it's possible to fill the hole with concrete, the road could be open again on Wednesday.

According to Google Maps, the usual drive along State Route 170 from Petersburg to Poland would be a nine mile trip, taking fifteen minutes.

The detour posted by the Ohio Department of transportation is 13.7 miles and takes approximately 20 minutes.
