Ohio joins 5 states targeting unsafe drivers

Posted: Updated:

Ohio's finest are teaming up with five other states to make our roadways safer.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is targeting distracted driving and reckless driving with troopers from Indiana, Michigan, Pennyslvania, Kentucky, and West Virginia. The Patrol will focus on those common crash causing violations, aggressive driving, texting, and following too closely.

"When you feel that vibration, or feel that sound, our first inclination is to want to grab that cell phone and see who wants to get a hold of us. But, honestly, it can wait. It's not worth the ensure clear distance crash, where you bump into the vehicle ahead of you. Because if you look down, just for four seconds, you've gone the equivalent of a football field at 55 miles per hour," said Sgt. Vince Shirey, with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The multi-state program ends on Sunday.
