Elm Road reopens after gas leak in Bazetta Township

Posted: Updated:

A gas leak prompted authorities to shut down a portion of Elm Road and evacuate a business for about an hour in the area of the old Wal-Mart store Monday afternoon.

First responders were called to the 2000 block of Elm Road after a gas line was ruptured in the area where a new Menard's store is being built.

Just before 2:00 p.m., Elm Road was closed from the Route 5 Bypass to North River Road.

The nearby Century Link office was evacuated.

Hazmat experts and crews from Dominion East Ohio were dispatched to the area.

There are no reports of injuries.

The road was opened again just before 3:00 p.m.
