Mahoning County judge delays retirement date

Posted: Updated:
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Voters in Mahoning County will not be choosing someone to replace Common Pleas Judge James Evans this November.

Judge Evans has written a letter to Ohio Supreme Court Justice Maureen O'Connor announcing that he has reconsidered his plans to retire at the beginning of September.

Evans says that instead, he'll be retiring on October 1, allowing his successor to have an extended period of time in office while completing Evans' current term before having to run in a general election.

Judge Evans also cities his involvement in continuing court matters, and his wife’s current employment status.

Additionally, the judge writes that a planned vacation has been canceled due to extraneous circumstances.

Judge Evans has expressed an interest in serving as a visiting judge in the future.
