Tourism is becoming an economic force in the region known as Ohio's Appalachian Country.

Mary Cusick, Director of Tourism-Ohio addressed a meeting of the group in Youngstown on Wednesday. She reported that tourism's economic impact throughout Ohio's 32 county Appalachian region topped $4 billion in 2013.

"And honestly a driver of the performance there, which is $4.1 billion in terms of sales, impact a big driver of that, is actually Mahoning County itself," said Cusick.

The economic impact is also creating employment in the region, with an estimated 52,000 tourism-related jobs in Ohio's Appalachian Country.
