Leaders work together to secure grant for Rt. 422 facelift

Posted: Updated:
WARREN, Ohio -  Mahoning and Trumbull county leaders are working together to secure funding for state Route 422 improvements.

A local match of about $2.5 million is required to secure a $10 million federal grant through U.S. Department of Transportation.

Local leaders, including mayors from Girard and Youngstown, discussed how they can work with other Mahoning and Trumbull county departments to apply for the grant.

A study outlining recommended improvements to the busy route suggests adding sidewalks and streetscaping as cosmetic upgrades and crosswalks for pedestrian safety. The improvements are hoped to attract new businesses and jobs to the region.
