BERNVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Animal welfare authorities say they've rescued dozens of roosters after breaking up a cockfighting ring in eastern Pennsylvania.

One person was arrested Thursday, but the suspect was not identified by the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Cockfighting is a felony.

According to an SPCA statement, a tip led officers to a farm near Bernville, about 10 miles northwest of Reading (RED'-ing).

Officers say they found evidence of cockfighting, unsanitary confinement and other animal cruelty violations. They seized 50 to 60 birds, a goat, a horse and four dogs.

The animals will be brought to SPCA headquarters in Philadelphia to be evaluated by veterinarians.
