Tressel responds to allegations he is not supportive of faculty

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

New Youngstown State University president Jim Tressel spoke at the annual conference for Mahoning and Columbiana County school administrators in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Besides trying to energize the educators, Tressel also spoke with 21News on the allegations by YSU faculty that he isn't supportive enough.

“I feel strongly about how hard they work and what they mean to the institution. But by law, I'm not involved in negotiations. That’s why you have two groups sitting down that have appointed members and the work on it. We've got good people on both sides and it's a tough issue,” Tressel said.

The current faculty contract expires August 17th, one day before Tressel's installation ceremony as president.
