Film, TV and music stars among Emmy presenters

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Film stars Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey and Halle Berry are among the first presenters announced for this month's Emmy Awards ceremony.

In a statement Monday, executive producer Don Mischer said 13 celebrities have been confirmed so far as trophy presenters for the Aug. 25 awards.

The three Oscar-winning actors have small-screen credentials: Berry is starring in the summer series "Extant," Roberts is nominated for the TV movie "The Normal Heart" and McConaughey is up for honors for the drama series "True Detective."

Their willingness to dabble in TV is a sign of the medium's creative strength and increasing appeal to top-tier actors and others in Hollywood.

Other presenters will include Emmy nominees Bryan Cranston of "Breaking Bad," Woody Harrelson of "True Detective," Julia Louis-Dreyfus of "Veep," Julianna Marguilies of "The Good Wife," Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory," Amy Poehler of "Parks and Recreation" and Kerry Washington of "Scandal."

Also handling trophy duties are "New Girl" star Zooey Deschanel and music artists Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani, both part of "The Voice."

The 66th Emmy Awards, with host Seth Meyers, are airing on NBC and on a Monday instead of the ceremony's usual Sunday. The switch was made to avoid a conflict with NBC's "Sunday Night Football" as well as the MTV Video Music Awards.

Gov. Tom Wolf's office says Pennsylvania driver's licenses that are compliant with tougher federal anti-terrorism standards should be available in early 2019. Wolf signed legislation Friday designed to bring Pennsylvania into compliance with the 2005 Real ID law enacted following the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
