Mercer County commissioner says he won't quit

Posted: Updated:
MERCER, Pa. -

The Mercer County commissioner under fire for being absent at meetings attended this Thursday morning meeting.

Commissioner Brian Beader told 21 News that he will not resign his post in spite of growing pressure to do so.

"I'm not here as much as I'd like to be, or should be, so it has been a challenge with the double duty, but I have been able to keep up to speed and I will continue to work to make Mercer County more efficient. I will continue to push issues that I believe are a benefit to taxpayers," said Beader.

The Northwest Democrat Alliance met on Monday, and said that they want Beader to step down because of his frequent absenteeism.  Beader said he has not received written notification from the alliance.

Beader has a job that takes him out of  town frequently, but he said he is keeping up with county business by email. Beader is considered a full time commissioner making $88,000 a year in salary and benefits.
