Talks continue about the future of the South West Regional Police Department

Posted: Updated:

Discussions are underway that could change the look of fire and police services in Sharon and Farrell.

City leaders in Farrell have requested a proposal from Sharon that would involve contracting for police services and separate Farrell from the South West Regional Police Department.

"It's seeking from the city of Sharon a proposal for police services. We've discussed that it was discussed publicly last week, it's under consideration and on the 21st, the city's going to have to decide whether or not that is something we want to entertain," said Scott Andrejchak, Sharon City Manager.

Farrell's City Manager, Mike Cece said, "It's not that were disappointed with the services the regional police department provides us currently. It's just the cost right now, something that's getting to a point where the increases in it are far out pacing the increases in our revenues."

A proposal may be crafted that would end up saving Farrell money for police, and in turn save money for Sharon, by sharing more fire services with Farrell.
