Large snake captured outside Niles shopping plaza

Posted: Updated:
NILES, Ohio - A slithering surprise greeted visitors to a Niles shopping plaza Monday afternoon.  Customers going into the Dollar General Market spied a large snake in the parking lot just before 4:30 p.m.

Police were called to the lot on Route 422 and North Road and identified the snake as a possible boa constrictor. Witnesses on the scene say the snake is about four feet long. Officers rounded up the reptile and secured it in a cardboard box.

Authorities took the snake to the police station and contacted a wildlife officer from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to come for the snake.

Police believe that the animal may be someone's pet that slithered away.
